We meet all of our host families face-to-face, inspect their home, and gather information on their lifestyles, professions and hobbies.

3. COMPLETE A CRIMINAL RECORDS CHECK (CRC)

All ACCCOSAM host families are required to provide police background checks .To complete your application we will also require a Criminal Records Check for all members of your household who are 18 years or over.

The Criminal Record Check can be done at your local police station.  You may be required to pay a fee of up to $50 per person for this documentation. The online option can be completed via a link that will be sent to you from your ACCOSAM Homesaty Coordinator and a fee of approximately $30 per person will apply.   If you have already obtained a Criminal Records Check for employment and the check is currently with your employer, a copy of that document or a letter from your supervisor confirming the status of the check will suffice. All Criminal Records Checks must have been completed within the last three years.

4. CRIMINAL RECORDS CHECK (CRC) CLEARANCE

Once you have completed the form, please advise ACCOSAM of CRC clearance evidence so we can verify that you have a valid application in progress. Once your application has been processed, you will be notified of the outcome by email from ACCOSAM. This process can take up to 2 weeks.

5. INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS

The Host Family must hold valid and current insurance, which includes coverage for the student. Certificates of Currency must be provided to ACCOSAM annually.

ACCOSAM recommends the host contact their insurance provider to ensure they are covered by the correct policy for their situation. Please note that not all policies would cover a student living in your home

6.
STUDENT PLACEMENT/ MATCHING

Once the home visit has been completed and all clearances and insurance certificates have been received, Your information will be updated in our database and our team can look at placing international students with you. This can take some time, as we need to make sure we find the best match between students and homestay families. The homestay host profile is used to find suitable matches between a host and ACCOSAM students. When the right student’s profile comes along you will be contacted by the Homestay Coordinator, matched and receive a profile of your guest prior to their arrival.  Please note we cannot control student arrivals and their study locations.

7.
ON BOARDING ON ACCOSAM PORTAL

Following successful homestay host verification and concurrently with student placement, major dashboard approval will be given to the host on ACCOSAM portal to manage relationship with students, ACCOSAM and others stakeholders. Once we have approved a host family, we continue to monitor them and obtain feedback from students on their experience. We believe our in-depth vetting and review process has created a high quality and successful homestay program.

8.
HOMESTAY COMPENSATION

In addition to ACCOSAM student membership subscription which confers Homestay placement and management charitable services, students pay their specific regulated accommodation costs directly to the ACCOSAM who then remunerates the homestay hosts on a fortnightly or periodical basis. Payments are made by bank transfer.

For specific accommodation rates contact the relevant website section/ ACCOSAM office.

We believe it’s key to happy and warm relationship that students feel integrated into the family rather than being seen as paying guests. By removing direct financial contact it removes possible sources of tension, conflict and alienation. For this reason ACCOSAM requires hosts to inform us directly when any changes are requested by the students, and ACCOSAM will adjust the homestay host’s payments accordingly.
